5 Water Sports You Should Try This Spring Break in The Florida Keys

With 600 feet of private, white, sandy beach on the Atlantic Ocean, The Islands of Islamorada offers its guests direct access to Islamorada’s clear blue water and a multitude of water sports that even beginners can enjoy. On this Spring Break vacation, why not try one of these popular activities and take home the memories of a lifetime?

1. Flats Fishing

The Florida Keys is widely known as a premier destination for flats fishing, a popular type of angling in shallow water with an even (or flat) bottom, usually in saltwater. Anglers enjoy the challenges of grass beds, bars, channels and vegetation when trying to hook exotic fish. The Islands of Islamorada offers easy access to flats fishing, and you also can park your boat at our marina.

2. Kiteboarding

The same clear, shallow water is ideal for kiteboarding. Also called kitesurfing, this adventure sport is sure to get your adrenaline flowing! To try it, you’ll stand on a wakeboard or surfboard and wear a harness that connects to a specially designed kite. The kite catches the wind, giving you the power to move across the surface of the water. Advanced riders can perform tricks with their wakeboards.

3. Paddleboarding

If a slower speed appeals to you, take one of our paddleboards out on the smooth water that gently washes onto The Islands’ private beach. You can enjoy the quiet beauty of the ocean or a spectacular sunset while getting an overall workout. Whether you kneel or stand, paddleboarding doesn’t take long to learn so everyone can enjoy the sport.

4. Kayaking

The Florida Keys has embraced the popularity of kayaking, and with good reason: The abundance of shallow water and up-close views of nature are unbeatable. From open waters to mangrove wilderness trails to specialty excursions, kayaking is an excellent way to explore the natural beauty of the islands. When you stay at The Islands of Islamorada, you can launch one of our kayaks from our private beach and experience this sport for yourself.

5.SCUBA & SnorkelinG

Our on-site concierge coordinates boat trips with trusted locals to the best snorkeling sites off Islamorada. You’re likely to spot fish, coral formations, barrel sponges, eagle rays and turtles at Alligator Reef, Crocker Reef and Wall, Davis Reef and Hens and Chickens Reef. Plus, bricks from a 1733 shipwreck still can be seen in the San Pedro Archaeological Preserve.

At The Islands of Islamorada, we offer the perfect blend of recreation and relaxation, all within a uniquely luxurious setting.
